Dorcus miwai is a species endemic(unique/only found in) to Taiwan, and is only found in areas with alititudes between 700 meters, to 2000 meters above sea level. This is due to lower temperatures in places with higher altitudes. This species holds a record size of 71.7 mm in captivity. The females for this species has lines down the lower abdomen like many giant stag beetle species.
